This Teacher Training is
Endorsed by the Association of Classical and Christian
Schools (ACCS),
and Sponsored by Rockbridge
Academy.
Training
is intended for the first year teacher, those who are just beginning in the field of Classical and Christian Education, or those who desire a refresher course.
Training will be held July 22-25, 2008 at Annapolis Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 710 Ridgely Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
The
seminar
will normally
run from 7:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The
Friday session
will be dismissed after lunch. An optional field trip to Gettysburg, PA will be available on Monday, July 21 (see details below).
The
conference will include plenary sessions that will address
broad areas of the vision, focus,
and application
of classical
and Christian education and a biblical world view.
Plenary sessions include such topics as: Shepherding
Hearts,
Peacemaking, Classical
Christian Education: What's It All About?, School
Culture, Biblical Roles of the School, The Seven
Laws of Teaching,
and more.
Breakout sessions will cover a variety of topics
of particular interest to the classical Christian
educator
at the Grammar,
Dialectic, and Rhetoric levels. The sessions
will include a valuable balance between broad philosophy
and practical
nuts-and-bolts.
Training will include video recordings of actual
classroom instruction, management, and organization
of Rockbridge
Academy. Breakout sessions include such topics
as: Lesson Planning,
Principles of Grading and Time Management, Teaching
Reading, Communication in the School, Excellence
in Writing, Principles
and Practice of Debate, and Teaching Rhetoric.
On Monday, July 21, we will offer a field trip to
Gettysburg. This is an optional activity for any who are
interested and will incur an additional $40 fee per
attendee. The cost of the Gettysburg Teacher Training
includes a National Defense University-trained docent
for the entire battlefield tour, a study guide, continental
breakfast, lunch, and transportation. Meet at
Annapolis EP church, depart at 7:00 a.m. and return at
6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008.
The purpose of the day is to help teachers bring history
to life for students, plan field trips, use history to drive
home character and leadership with students, and
guide students to view history in terms of motivation,
context, and outcomes, all with a biblical world view.
