General Qualifications for Employment

Teacher applicants should have a minimum Bachelor's degree in the Liberal Arts, Literature, History, Mathematics, or Science. Applicants must be members in good standing of an evangelical Protestant church, organized, good communicators, and possess a love for children, knowledge, and learning.

Description: Rockbridge Academy is a classical Christian school, located between Baltimore and Annapolis, which seeks to teach students in an academic, Christ-centered environment according to the Trivium. Rockbridge has grown its secondary from one to two class sections per year, and all of the employment positions will be joining an experienced faculty. The following positions are currently available:

Beginning Suzuki Violin (Grades 1-3) Teacher

Rockbridge Academy is seeking candidates for a part-time position (approximately 4 hours per week) for the 2018-2019 academic year. The potential exists to combine this position with other posted part-time teaching positions. The violin instruction will use the Suzuki method. The ideal candidate will possess a love for the Lord, a love for children, and a love of music, and be able to demonstrate that to students. Candidates should hold a minimum of Suzuki Book Two certification and/or experience in Suzuki violin instruction.

Elementary Music (Grades K-3) Teacher

Rockbridge Academy is seeking candidates for a part-time music teaching position for grades K-3 (approximately 10 hours per week) for the 2018-2019 academic year. The potential exists to combine this position with other posted part-time teaching positions. The music curriculum will expose students to a variety of great music and composers of western culture. In addition, the students will develop a proper use of the singing voice and acquire the knowledge and aural vocabulary to develop good music reading skills. Our curriculum makes use of the approaches of Kodaly, Orff, and others that contain useful components in the ways it teaches to the development of the child. The ideal candidate will possess a love for the Lord, a love for children, and a love of music, and be able to demonstrate that to students. Candidates will hold a minimum bachelor's degree, with a major or minor in vocal music education preferred.

Latin (Grade 3) Teacher

Rockbridge Academy is seeking candidates for a part-time Latin teaching position for 3rd grade (approximately 8 hours per week) for the 2018-2019 academic year. The potential exists to combine this position with other posted part-time teaching positions. The Latin instruction will be done using Latina Christiana Book I. The ideal candidate will possess a love for the Lord, a love for children, and a love of Latin, and be able to demonstrate that to students. Candidates will hold a minimum bachelor's degree, with coursework or experience in beginning Latin instruction.

Rhetoric Science Teachers

(Biology: Grade 10; Chemistry: Grade 11; Physics/Advanced Physics: Grade 12) Rockbridge Academy is seeking candidates for rhetoric science teaching positions for the 2018-2019 academic year. The ideal science teacher will possess a love for learning, a love for God's word, a love for children, and a love for the sciences. He or she will be organized and a clear communicator. A master’s degree in the sciences is the preferred educational requirement for this position, though candidates with a bachelor’s degree will be considered. Experimentation and putting theory to practice are important parts of our science curriculum, as is writing ability. Prior teaching experience or work in the applied sciences is highly desired. Experience in IT support or in coaching soccer, basketball, swimming, baseball, or lacrosse a plus.

Business Office Assistant

Rockbridge Academy is seeking candidates for the position of Business Office Assistant for the 2018-2019 school year. This is a half-time, year-round position. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of general accounting experience, be highly organized and self-directed, have a facility with technology and a willingness to learn various web-based service applications for third party service providers, and be able to handle confidential information with integrity. This position is heavily reliant on the computer to perform most functions, and the candidate should be experienced and comfortable with end-user operation of a workstation. A working knowledge of QuickBooks software and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, including an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, are a must. The Business Office Assistant will report to and assist the Director of Finance with the following: general bookkeeping, preparing deposits and writing checks, processing and reconciling a wide variety of accounting documents, maintaining and updating subsidiary spreadsheets, reconciling bank statements, assisting with employee benefit administration and payroll functions, maintaining the Business Office filing system, and assisting the Director of Finance with special projects. The Rockbridge Academy Business Office is located off-site, and travel to and from the school will be necessary.
