Frequently Asked Questions
When will The Paideia School at Rockbridge Academy launch?
September 2026
Where will classes meet?
At a location within 15 minutes of the Rockbridge Academy main campus, finalized based on enrollment.
What grades will be offered?
We will begin with K-6th grade with anticipation that we may expand in future years as interest grows.
How many days will students be on campus?
Two full days each week, 7:45am- 3pm. The remaining three days of instruction will be guided by co-teaching parents at home.
Will parents be trained?
Yes. Parents are essential partners and co-teachers in this model. The Paideia School at Rockbridge Academy will provide training, detailed lesson plans, and ongoing support during the days students are at home.
How is this different from a co-op or tutorial?
Unlike a co-op, the Paideia School is a formal extension of Rockbridge Academy. Families benefit from the same curriculum, vision, and standards of excellence, delivered in a model that blends structure with flexibility. For more details on how this differs from a Co-op or tutorial see this document.
Is my child considered a homeschooler under Maryland law if we enroll in The Paideia School?
No. Because the Paideia School is a recognized extension of Rockbridge Academy, your child is legally enrolled in a school—not registered as a homeschooler. This means:
- Parents do not need to register with the county, or an umbrella group.
- Rockbridge is fully responsible for your child’s education, record-keeping, and compliance with Maryland regulations.
- Your child will be considered a private school student, not a homeschooler, even though much of the instruction takes place at home under your guidance.
This is one of the key distinctions between The Paideia School and a homeschool co-op: families retain flexibility in instruction at home while also enjoying the security and accountability of being enrolled in an established school.
What will tuition be?
Tuition rates will be set once enrollment interest is established, with a focus on affordability and access.
